Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation and Recovery
Coordinated Care for Musculoskeletal Conditions
Mount Sinai’s musculoskeletal care program is comprehensive, from pain management and surgery prevention to surgery and rehabilitation, provided by elite orthopedic surgeons and neurosurgeons.
Exclusive Access to Navigators and Care Guides
Led by trained social workers, they work to simplify appointment scheduling, coordinate specialist referrals, and ensure patients receive the right care at the right time. From navigating next steps to checking in on progress, they provide ongoing support for a seamless, personalized healthcare experience.
Care Plan Development With Guiding Physician
Designed to offer comprehensive support for healing and recovery from musculoskeletal pain, this program is led by a guiding physician—either a surgeon or physiatrist—who works closely with each patient to develop a highly personalized treatment plan focused on helping them reach their health goals as quickly and safely as possible. When appropriate, the guiding physician may bring in additional specialists, such as physical therapists or mental health providers, to support rehabilitation through noninvasive care before considering surgical options.
Noninvasive Approach
The program’s noninvasive approach includes multidisciplinary treatment led by Mount Sinai physiatrists and surgeons to improve pain and function without surgical intervention. A physician will establish a treatment plan suited to each patient’s condition. Treatments during nonsurgical care may include physical therapy, behavioral health support, medication, injections, or office-based procedures.
Specialized Surgical Care
If it is determined that a patient requires surgical intervention, they won’t go through it alone. The physician or physiatrist who has guided them up to this point will refer the patient to Mount Sinai orthopedic surgeons or neurosurgeons. Then, the Navigation Services team will work on the patient’s behalf to schedule the necessary surgical appointments at a Mount Sinai hospital and coordinate all medical and administrative paperwork necessary for surgery.
Post-surgery, care guides provide regular check-ins to ensure recovery is going smoothly and support access to recovery care. Should any issues arise post-surgery, patients can count on our care guides to help them access the right care efficiently.
